idk if this is something everyone already knew, but exercising (specifically strength training) takes a surprising amount of mental effort

usually when I'm walking around or doing chores I listen to a podcast because I feel understimulated, but when I'm lifting weights or doing other strength exercises I actually find the podcast distracting? the difficulty could be related to the fact that I am very new to any kind of strength training, and my exercises are very focused on fixing specific muscle groups for a medical issue
