“wait a minute…this lesbian bar doesn’t have a fire exit!” is one of the all time simpsons jokes. god dude y’all ever heard about this show. i guess if you watched this every night for years and also read a fuckload of terry pratchett books as a child it would probably shape the way you think about humor forever or something like that
ITT post your favorite simpsons or terry pratchett jokes. sorry if this takes off and it clogs up your timeline but the nice thing is you can silence this post rather than writing a bitchy little complaint about it merely because you refuse to engage with a basic feature of the website. yes i’m feeling kinda punchy why do you ask. anyway my other favorite one is hank scorpio’s “sorry it’s not in packages.” little obvious but it’s really good
I'm so bad at coming up with these on the spot but I do dearly love "I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can't get the spices right!"
As kids/teens, my brother and I would read the Discworld novels voraciously, especially when traveling (which we did a lot) and would often show our parents the best pages or jokes.
My mom's favorite has always been,
The detritus of the night rolled through the gutters, some of it protesting feebly.
I have many favorite moments, but I will always remember the favorite of my late dad, who didn't watch the Simpsons:
(silly voice) "Hello, my name is Mr. Burns. I believe you have a letter for me."
Alll right Mr. Burns what's your first name.
"..."
...
(same silly voice) "I don't know!"
the episode where Homer and guest star Rodney Dangerfield go into a theater where the marquee announces a film called "Too Many Grandmas" but you only hear the sounds of a movie car chase and a kid saying "Drive faster, Grandma! Grandma's gaining on us!" is basically the template for my entire sense of humor
Favorite Simpsons: "We're talking about S E X in front of the C H I L D R E N"
"Sex Cauldron?! I thought they closed that place down!"
Favorite Discworld: nearly impossible to choose, but I'll always love how the protagonist of Soul Music's name, Imp y Celyn, is Welsh for "Bud of the Holly". And the fact that everyone is always commenting on how he "looks Elvish".
