I wish I could get a more 3D representation of the carnage inside the axle companion flange here, but I think that one dent in the boot sleeve should give you the right idea.
this is an expensive lesson to measure the new axle against the old before installing. I confirmed after pulling the axle that caused this carnage that it's 6mm too short compared to the old one, so it can fall out of the companion flange at full suspension droop, like what happened to me. I haven't measured the tripod bearings yet, but I bet they're 1mm too small in diameter, too, which means Trakmotive is building axles which are in actuality only for 1979-1985 900's, but are listing them as compatible with 1987-1993 900's (the 1986's had one year specific axles with larger inner CV joints).
