taking apart this (almost entirely made of metal, including the body) early 1960's Fleischmann HO scale model of SNCF 68001 earlier today was... a shock, coming from handling newer, almost entirely plastic scale models. the Walthers coaches I bought last year are so lightly built (especially for how much they cost!) that I could crack them in half without any effort; even their prescibed method of taking them apart can easily break plastic tabs off so the roof will never fit right again.

I can't articulate the feeling fully, but the enshittification of every day things feels more and more visceral and unavoidable with every passing day, interacting with items made when the (in)famous graph of union membership vs. wealth share was flat and even nonwithstanding.
