For the longest time there was one specific winquote in Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire that kinda flummoxed me because I only ever saw it once in an online versus match with a friend and could not, for the life of me, get it to appear again. There was a mystery here.

So this page has a list of all the possible winquotes in the English version of the arcade game (and even a Lua script to get screenshots of them all) and the person who wrote this pointed out something odd- a couple of characters have multiple duplicates of quotes, specifically Q-Bee, Morrigan and Lilith, which got me thinking...

It seems that for the English arcade release, some winquotes were dummied out like this for whatever reason. Maybe they were just that little bit too risqué (and this applies whether you have 'graphic content' switched on or off, that just seems to affect blood) for arcade use? Some definitely fit that description but there's a few outliers. However, some of the home versions- the Playstation and Saturn ports and the Darkstalkers Resurrection version on 360 and PS3- actually reinstate these quotes which was really surprising! That's why I swore I'd seen some of these before- I'd seen them in the home versions. Any releases that are just emulation (like Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium) don't include them.

Let's start with Lilith, because she's the best. She had four quotes cut:
"Oh, it's too small. It only tickles! It won't satisfy me." (You can figure this one out, right?)
"I feel something is melting inside, so light and great..." (This one too.)
"I like pain, because it turns into pleasure gradually." (This one might be obvious, but Morrigan has a similar line that was kept.)
"I don't like to be alone. Will you play with me forever?" (This might be a mistake.)

There's also "Me and you, we can be together... forever!" missing from the blog post but it seems this one only appears if you have a Lilith vs. Morrigan match.

Next is Lilith's better half, Morrigan, who had three quotes cut:
"I would give it... 69 points!" (That's the sex number.)
"You're as energetic as ever, just don't be in such a rush." (Total mystery, this one.)
"I don't need eternal love. I just want the acme now." (Morrigan uses the word 'acme' in another quote, so maybe it was cut to reduce repetition.)

Finally, Q-Bee also had three quotes cut:
"It will be fun to play with your body." (Bit forward there, Q-Bee.)
"I can see your flower... It's time to pollinate." (Subtle.)
"I'll eat your head. I won't suck but I promise to swallow!" (This is the one that started me looking into this. Yes, I burst out laughing when I saw this too.)

This is definitely one of those posts I did just for me, but it's pretty interesting, huh?

Thanks! Yeah, it confused me because I wanted to see that Q-Bee quote in the arcade game and just couldn't get it to show up at all but I remember some of the Lilith ones from playing the PS1 port~ Glad I've got at least some kind of answer now!

I'm sort-of working on second-hand info here but what I've seen points to... Some have been embellished but some of it was like that in the first place.

Most of Lilith's quotes, for instance, seem to be at least very close to what was translated (the line about something 'tickling' is missing the bit about it being small but the melting line is pretty close)

In the case of Q-Bee's quotes though, the one about the head is almost completely different- the closest Japanese line is more to-the-point, something like "First the head... Then the innards". Morrigan's quote about giving it 69 points was also originally just 60 points, but most of her other lines are close to what was translated.

However, there's definitely some parts of the localisation that feel a little rough (Lilith's quote about 'please give me some new information' always stuck out to me) so that's worth bearing in mind too.

Oh, I quite definitely remember the "it's too small" line from the Saturn version of this game. I get that she's an evil sex demon, but GEEZ, Capcom.

I also seem to recall some racy dialog in a DS spin-off of Phantasy Star, strongly suggesting that one of the characters was getting felt up by a tentacle. Heh. A heh heh, heh.
