lmao fuck stripe
Fuck VISA
Fuck Mastercard

This is why i made that post recently lamenting the fact that crypto sucks as much as it genuinely and truly does - it means we still don’t have a real alternative to this fuckheaded financial system and we

REALLY NEED ONE

It is not bad to suggest that maybe making every payment ever go through like 3-4 gatekeepers that all seem to agree on what content should not exist on the internet is a bad situation that should change and be replaced with something better (and currently “something better” just does not exist).

in reply to @Codarobo's post:

there's the ECB "digital Euro" project, and while I feel a state-backed alternative would be preferable to the intransparent unaccountable private providers we have, I don't have high hopes and I suspect the recently elected right-wing EU parliament would find all kind of ways to compromise, if not horribly abuse it

For Canada specifically there's Interac e-Transfers, it's the same framework 'tap to pay' debit cards use and can best be described as a quick and convenient (uses a question and answer password system for authorization) way of doing direct bank transfers using e-mail (doesn't need to be the same as your bank) or SMS

I’ve heard that Canadians have a pretty cool online banking system and i am not at all opposed to that as long as it doesn’t get taken over by fascists to persecute minorities in a similar way to Mastercard etc

I.. don’t actually know if I trust the US with this one :/

I’m not actually sure it had a chance in reality, but to an untrained observer in the early days it certainly sounded like it could be cool on paper. Like if you know that credit card companies are what they are and impact speech the way they clearly do, a thing that does an end run around that sounds pretty cool right?

But either through ignorance or greed or perhaps even some irrevocable structural flaw that can never be solved it was built in a way that simply can’t work
