The reputation system in Caves of Qud is maybe the funniest mechanic I've seen in a game in a very long time

synth shaun (read: the very specific version of synth shaun that lives in my head) makes me want to eat glass.

imagine you go home with your father and he tries to convince both of you that he loves you, and part of him does, but he still can’t look you in the eye for too long. you find out you aren’t really his son, but a manufactured copy that the man you call your dad took in like a stray because he felt guilty about killing the real you. the real you who was stolen from his home and manipulated, and who stole others from their homes and manipulated his father as a game in his final days. the real you who reprogrammed you to believe that you were him, that you were some modicum of normal, even though you don’t actually remember anything before the generator was sabotaged. even though you won’t grow up past age ten. all your friends get older and you don’t. the adults around you get older and you don’t. everyone around you gets older and gets sick and dies and you don’t. how long can you survive like that?
