store-bought is fine

Did anyone else not have many games as a kid but borrow strategy guides from their friends so they could obsess over the characters? I spent multiple hours a day as a child of 8 or 9 staring into the soul of certain Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy 10 characters, to the point where it probably was concerning to my parents. I don’t want to ever play them because it will inevitably be disappointing

I did obsess over strategy guides. There was something about them that was so appealing. I especially loved the listings of all the spells and techniques in games.

I remember looking at the Xenosaga strategy guide and age 11 and deciding I was bisexual (I am not bisexual.)

I did this for KH (before I got to play it) and TWEWY (which I have played as an adult) and MagnaCarta 2 (which I have still not played). I think it could be disappointing, but it could also be nice to finally know the characters as they exist in their canon. If you do get into games you didn't know about, I think it would be very cool to write down all of your first impressions and built-upon personal lore about them and then compare thoughts when you know them more. But also totally fair if you just never want to get into it!
