Oh boy, I can’t recommend it… it was just one big CGI smear of exhausting, samey action that felt both boring and like it was bludgeoning you over the head. Part of the problem was that the vast majority of the movie takes place in a green-screen “hollow earth” setting so you’re not even getting that fun kaiju cityscape content outside of like two scenes. It’s loud and weightless and not at all interesting.

The story was even worse than the action, which was at least impressively animated. The script was just free-association nonsense; there was never any sense that the plot was building towards anything. Every conflict would be set up with a minute of really rough exposition, they’d immediately solve the problem in the next scene (or the same scene!), wash, rinse, repeat. For 90% of the film I could not determine how far along in the movie we were because of this structure, so I would occasionally experience a giddying sensation of terror at the idea that maybe we still had more than an hour to go of this.

I don’t have a lot to say about the acting and dialogue except that it was quite bad. I can’t really blame the actors for executing poorly because the script felt like it was pulled directly from ChatGPT, with one “They fly now?”-style joke inserted into each exchange after generation.

Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations lol, this was a rough one to sit through. A couple of the friends I saw it with did like it which makes me think I may have been spoiled by Godzilla Minus One, but I cannot imagine any timeline where I enjoyed this movie.
