Possibly someone getting mixed up? The producer said in an interview that he wanted to have the Pico character named 包 (Pao, or Bao), in reference to phimosis, but a fighting game already had a boy with that name, which would be King of Fighters.
Oh interesting! I was going off something my friend told me; upon further investigation there is an old twitter thread where he says the genre became popular again due to a “Bridget boom” and that he was spotted and recruited for it due to the success of a Bridget doujinshi he wrote
Ah, yeah, checks out. The interview (NSFW) talks about the doujinshi, called Syota-nize. Apparently the producer was inspired to want to make Boku no Pico by an image that turned out to be from it, of a boy in a tank top pulled up over his nipples. Looking at the doujin, it's KOF's Vanessa, shota-nized as it were. So that's KOF lore too.
