Most Seija/Shinmyoumaru art is such a missed opportunity because it’s all moe stuff about haha shinmyoumaru is so small, isn’t that cute? It’s not that I don’t think that art is fun too, but at least in Double Dealing Character they have such a manipulative/borderline abusive dynamic that has so much more potential for interesting storytelling and barely gets explored.

It’s interesting that this happens with Seishin specifically and not Seiga/Yoshika from the previous game which is another ship with an extreme power imbalance, dark implications etc. There’s plenty of cute art of those two as well but a HUGE amount of really good angstier art. I know Seishin is a lot less popular but the proportions are also way off which is interesting to me— I would say it’s nine to one cute versus serious ship art. Is it just because shinmyoumaru is small? Did most people come away with a different understanding of Seija’s personality and relationship to her in Touhou 14? It’s kind of frustrating because I love those two together but all the art is just hehe look at the sillies :3 I understand their relationship changes in the later games but the older art is all like this, too.

For my one wish this year I pray to find a weirdo drawing really dark art of genderswapped Seishin, amen.
