One thing I really like to do lately is read academic papers on esoteric Japanese Buddhist mythological concepts - in this case, i'm reading a description of "Goho Doji" - childlike spirit attendants of great power who alternately served gods (I was already familiar with Fudo Myo-o being accompanied by Kongara and Seitaka Doji) and also monks in service to the dharma.

There's a tendency in Buddhist myth systems to describe "converted" demons or evil deities who became Buddhist and thereafter served as Dharmapala (Protectors of the Dharma/Buddhism). A classic might be Daigensui Myo-o/Atavaka (Whom I made the namesake for our rival character in SZX as an aside) who was a child eating demon who repented of his ways and became a protector, and a Wisdom King (Myo-o) to boot, which is a pretty serious promotion cosmologically speaking.

This is a longwinded way to say that I found a description of a converted demon/yaksa child serving as a Goho Doji attendant to a monk and I was amused to find a rare example of a converted demon faltering in their observance of dharma and reverting to type, which i've included above. The image of this shonen-protag fashioned youth (17-18, red hair, supernaturally strong, demonic heritage) getting mad at another teen and punching them so hard they die and then crying bc their boss, the literal Bishamonten, is gonna be mad at them is so funny and human I wanted to share it.
