The lack of shading is compensated for by clever gradient work that's almost not noticeable because they make the flats blend into the background appropriately. (Don't think Persona4 anime, nothing ugly like that). The designs are all fire and the intricacy of some things (plus the poofy ass sleeves) made Trinity Blood flicker across my mind (but it's not THAT crazy). Characters fit their visual shorthand very well.

It is a mystery/policing/detective plot but also a family life drama and also they're nobles so there's that tinge to it. I think so far they actually do a pretty good job of merging the two tones?? It is kind of cool to see anime with parenting, especially dads??

The dads/main characters are all very pretty and attractive so from a very shallow angle, that's also a plus. (The glasses one you were eyeing is named Dino and he's a weird mutters-under-his-breath type that's super serious and stoic but sometimes he gets heated and shouts for a sentence. He also has a horrible stoop and comes across as creepy in a fun way. Like a guy who has a slightly uncomfortable hobby like taxidermy. And he's apparently UNLOVABLE. He has been married several times and the ex-wives keep divorcing him. He thinks this is really funny but has given up).

I don't think I have anything too negative to say about it, it's just kind of silly and probably a bit predictable. I don't expect anything HELLA amazing to happen or mindblowing but I think it's going to be a fun ride. -tsg+of

Thank you, you didn’t have to go to so much effort!! This is an amazing write-up and I’m totally sold, if Dino is anything to go by the characterization sounds really solid and I’m so glad to hear the animation is as good as it looked in the trailer, I love flats used well. I’m gonna check this out when I get back to the country for sure
