Almost caught up on the excellent Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master and Rokon is not the type of character I’m usually interested in at all but something about his relationship to Natsuka is so compelling to me, especially the way that he has to serve his master by deliberately acting against his official orders so that Natsuka’s true will can be executed without his hands being dirtied. What it reminds me of more than anything else is Klaus’ relationship to Taki in Maiden Rose, and honestly I think Natsuka is far more interesting and attractive than Taki. I’d love to read some kind of fic about them in this vein but sadly I think this series is going to go under without a trace, it’s too slept on. With the success of Apothecary Diaries you would think more people would be ready for a good josei in this kind of setting!
Looking for show recs this season for any good stuff I might have missed! Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master is basically made for me and I will be watching every episode day of air so I’ve got that going, but not much else is really catching my eye aside from Astro Note and Tonari no Yokai-San, both of which I am fairly sure I will enjoy.
I don’t really like CGDCT shows unless they are actually funny (think Asobi Asobase, The Little Lies We All Tell, etc.) so Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night and Girls Band Cry are probably out for me, and I’ve never seen the first Spice and Wolf so probably can’t jump right into the new one. I thought I might like Train to the End of the World and I do love the setting and vibe but the writing and characters are just kinda weak and inconsistent, I’ll probably drop that one.
