Go see it if it’s still playing near you, especially if you like Gobelins stuff or French animation in general! It’s so cool, very GITS-y. Surprisingly cute and funny in parts despite some really brutal action scenes, and the French and English dubs are both great.
I can’t find this synopsis anywhere else, and certainly it would never have been greenlit by a distributor. It really smacks of an LLM to me because it seems to have latched onto a single term, “Mars Express”, and then fantasized a completely different plot about a crew of astronauts (!). The film itself only includes two very brief scenes involving the Mars Express, and it’s essentially presented as a business-class plane flight. It’s a fairly grounded sci-fi neo-noir which takes place within a Mars colony which is so well-established that it is almost indistinguishable from an Earth environment.
The review in question, which aside from this cracked-out synopsis is quite human: https://collider.com/mars-express-movie-review/
Also please watch Mars Express when it comes to streaming, it’s excellent! The sub and dub are both great.
