I think it must be because the characters’ clothes are so beautiful, I love male characters with more feminine hair and clothes but not usually if it’s generic “femboy”-type designs. Touhou outfits and hairstyles just adapt so well to making very beautiful male characters; they fit them very naturally and (if done right) it doesn’t look like a person wearing another character’s clothes. And because I am a freak who thinks about 2hus and their ships all day I can enjoy it right away because I already know their personality and dynamic with the other character.

Sometimes the personalities are more attractive to me in male characters too, like I really don’t care that much about Shion Yorigami ordinarily because that sort of shrinking wallflower personality doesn’t appeal to me much in female characters, but when you map her personality onto an extremely tall handsome guy it’s really adorable
