That's the insane genius of humanity. A plant or fungus will create some sort of defense mechanism to protect it, and most animals will decide, "Yep, that's not for me," and leave it alone. HUMANS will say, "Hot peppers? Agonizingly sour lemons? Marijuana that makes me feel dazed and confused? I want MORE of that!" We take nature's warnings as a challenge. We've basically found a way to game the ecological system.
