I upgraded recently from an i5 12400 to a i7 12700k. Not the biggest of upgrades, but still beneficial and it didn't set me back much since I am selling my used i5 for over $100 used.
Before I put my old heatsink on top of my old CPU, I knew it was going to be a hot chip compared to the i5. So I decided to buy one of the improved contact frames since a billion dollar corporation like Intel can't fix a basic problem of their chips becoming too hot due to the hardware not being able to keep the processor in evenly.
Since installing... I've somehow have not hit beyond 71*c during gaming or stress tests. The frame itself really does make a huge difference when it comes to cooling, so I heavily recommend the upgrade!
