I DIDN'T EXPECT TO RECOGNIZE THE AVRO ARROW. anyway hey Deif was weird for a conservative pm in the cold war, he refused to allow the prosecution of communist canadians and didn't want the states to put nuclear warheads in canada. anyway Lester the liberal who replaced him went ahead and brought those nukes in

and the quebec government somehow sending the army on its own (???) to confront Mohawk protestors in the Oka Crisis, which happened because a golf club tried to put its back nine on tribal land for some damn reason. also, relatedly, that there are large parts of the country i could get hate crimed for things i basically couldn't get specifically hate crimed for anywhere else

A thing to know about me is that I grew up somewhere where being largely white-coded I didn't really get stared at unless I was doing some fuckshit and moving to the PNW reminded me that, wait, yeah, there's animus there I just never really paid attention to, it only comes out in places where white people think they have the upper hand enough to start getting specific with it

Ah see I figured that first nations people face racism on the rest of the continent too so I didn't think of that as a pnw thing. Like if you're Squamish you're still dealing with racism in the US for that

oh absolutely, I more meant that it's unusually virulent up in the corner of north america I live in and gets wilder in other parts of it. There's def other bits of the Americas where it's just as bad, and scattered parts of America itself where it's just as bad. It's more that I'm used to like. Institutional repression and ignorance rather than active, everyday violent animus from everyday settlers
