happy wednesday! the majority of our time this past week has been spent reviewing the applications we got for the support ops role (if you applied and haven’t heard from us yet, you will soon!), managing support and moderation, and getting site performance stable enough that we don’t have to think about it at 11pm.
in case you missed it: the revised terms of service are now up! the revised community guidelines are still coming soon; we’ve decided to hold off on anything final until after we’ve finished hiring for support ops. we’ll share more once we have anything new to share!
we’re down to around 17k unactivated users! now that site performance is improved, we’re back to activating around 1k every business hour. hopefully we’ll have moved through the entire queue soon.
here’s what we’ve been working on:
- you can now quick share posts on mobile! tap and hold the share button to try it out!
- this is the first time jae has gotten to work on an actual Feature in like a week. they are thrilled
- we’re seeing some issues on iOS that jae’s gonna fix in the morning. turns out literally no browser sends touch events the same! the web is a nightmare!
- added the ability to hide comments!
- if you’re the OP of a post, check the meatball menu! lots of fun surprises and treats in there.
- added deviantart’s
noimageai/noaidirectives - entered the Third Age of Posting
- moved the
slideupleftandslideuprightanimations to our CSS!- this reduces a loadbearing crime dependency on the freshdesk support widget
- if you don’t know what this means: don’t worry about it!
- if you do: you’re welcome!
- assorted performance fixes
- improved our backend SQL query batching when loading several posts
- fixed some missing indices to improve overall query times
- fixed a weird edge case that caused tag and user search queries to be way slower than expected
- and soooooo much more. colin wrote about some of the high level challenges here. this was an entire week of work for jae and they’re glad to be Done For Now.
that’s all for this week! we’re all very tired! here’s what’s coming up:
- account deletions are still in progress
- one of the things that got temporarily delayed while we got site performance under control. we’re getting there!
- jae is finally free to work on the bookmarked tag page
- one of the performance fixes actually makes this page possible!
- we’re gonna hire someone! holy shit!
thanks for using cohost!
