one of the things that made it hard at first to realize i was autistic is that autism was "sold" to me as "when a kid has trouble communicating and is uncontrollably difficult" so i was like "yeah that can't be me" because i was a pretty easygoing kid. the more i learned about actual autism as an adult the more i realized i was autistic and that i was fed a lot of misinformation about autism

yeah!! i had a cousin who was autistic w/ a speech impairment, and that was pretty much all the exposure i got, so for a long time i had a negative connotation w/ the term.

learning more about it and accepting that part of myself was nice. paved the way to figuring out i was trans too i think
