like not only does research show that approval leads to greater voter satisfaction than ranked choice voting but it's also just more intuitive and simpler to do things using approval voting

like, imagine if you could no longer ❤️ posts on cohost and you had to instead rank all of the posts on your timeline. that would sound ridiculous and overcomplicated, right? that's basically the difference between approval voting (❤️ as many candidates as you want) and ranked choice voting (rank all the candidates and assign a total order to them)

ranked choice voting requires the voter to do more work for a worse outcome on average, which is silly

i think a lot of it is people see the tactical voting opportunities of RCV as an important check and balance, never realizing that most people don't know how to RCV past the basics let alone that tactical voting exists
