Today I learned that in German you can think of "ausdrücken" (English: to express) as "aus" (out) + "drücken" (press). In other words, it literally translates to "out press" or (equivalently) to "ex-press".

I was wondering if there was an equivalent correspondence for the English verb "impress" and, sure enough, there is!

The German word for "impress" is "beeindrücken" ("be" + "ein" + "drücken") which you can translate almost literally as "be in press"
