it's called junk, and the premise is... well, here's the description from the itch page:

Junk is a variation of the familiar falling-blocks puzzle game. When you start a game of Junk, you don’t play on an empty board. Instead, you play on the finishing board of someone else’s game. And when you’re done, any mistakes you make, all junk you collect, will become another's problem in due time, for all time.

you only get to play for two minutes at a time, so one person can only fuck things up but so badly. you get to put your name in too, so the last player can see who fucked things up right before them. watching all of the junk pile up at the beginning is... very satisfying, but also kind of horrifying?

a gif of a bunch of pieces rapidly being placed on a tetris board.

check it out! the creator, y2bd, has one other game on their itch page, if you want to check that out too.

in reply to @cass's post:

what a lovely game. the server maintains 5 boards and over the past 6+ years, they've accumulated over 7000 lines of junk. (not surprising - this game is pretty difficult relative to many tetrises and it's like a public art installation that you get to contribute to)

a friend and I spent quite some hours to bring that down to around 5000 lines, and tbh I could see myself spending another dozen hours to clean the whole slate

(you were the last person's name in my game.)

i feel like you'd almost want a custom client, or something else to speed up or skip the initial display of junk; it's cute, but it takes a long time on every game start
