With INDIE INTERVIEWS, I talk to the game developers hanging here on Cohost to learn more about new games you might love.
If you like drawing and writing, visual novels are a perfect match for storytelling. But how do you find the motivation to make them? Today I talk to @kalechips about choose-your-own-adventure books, robot dinosaur notebooks, and evoking feelings in the player.
You can play kalechips' games on itch.io!
Introduce yourself for everyone here on Cohost! Who are you?
Hello azul and howdy I'm kalechips, a writer/artist guy working on primarily visual novels. Most all my stories are inspired by vintage anime or classic literature in some way. Also, lots of trains.
Is there a project you're working on currently? Tell us about it!
Currently, I'm working on TWO WHOLE PROJECTS! WOW! One is Sorekara, a Dezaki inspired story where a cursed traveler and a chain-smoking freshly dead soul ride a trolley to the afterlife. There's a lot of attention paid to the whimsical settings they ride through, with a little mystery in each chapter. Also, it's gay.
The other is Prayer for the Winter Gears, a sort-of sequel to another winter vn of mine. It's got snow, anime Catholocism and the undying power of moe. Oh, it's so cute. But I kept getting distracted by other projects, so I feel bad that I haven't finished it yet.
Thank you very much for the interview ππ½ββοΈ I feel so official now. Here's my copy of the choose-your-own adventure book I mentioned before. There's a time loop in it that's pretty scary, you flip between two pages forever and ever and I think it unlocked some deep fear within me. I haven't slept peacefully since.
