I played a lot of Monster Hunter World, and was really anticipating coming back for Iceborne. This enthusiasm was, sadly, misplaced, because they ruined the game when they added clutch claw and tenderization. Basically, gotta use the clutch claw to latch onto the monster and beat the crap out of it. But, see, I'm an insect glaive main, and since my weapon is a light weapon, it takes two hits per part to tenderize effectively. Also, the tenderization wears off. Insect glaive also has other buffs that need to be maintained. I was spending all my time just maintaining the tenderization debuff and my bug buffs instead of, y'know, monster hunting.
I eventually installed a mod that removed this. The game was fun for me again, and I was able to beat it, but I still didn't vibe with it as much as I had during my first run through Monster Hunter World. By the time I reached the final boss and credits of Iceborne, I was pretty profoundly done with it.
Honestly, Monster Hunter may just not be a good series for the way I'm going through my backlog. I have since continued playing Iceborne in between other games on my backlog, and even went and uninstalled the mod that removes the tenderization mechanic. I was just being silly, I think, and now when I play with Insect Glaive in world, it's with the decoration that allows me to tenderize in one hit.
Also, picked up hammer. Hammers are cool.
