Cohost just implemented markdown's strange specification. It's meant to make it harder to lose track of numbers in long lists, but honestly it is pretty dispruptive.
Two workarounds: Use "\" before each number. Use "* " before each number. Neither looks like a normal markdown list, but both should preserve your number ordering.
reducing typos by ignoring all user input after the first entry sure is a concept
