I think the best possible sci-fi gun design is doing something like the mk23 socom or that AK in Elysium where you have a normal gun and then a big block of gizmos attached onto the side or bottom so either you can remove it when everything is getting hacked and you're the only one with a gun now, or so you can dramatically take it off and say you never actually used it, that was all skill
