i might not be the biggest fan of organized religion but i love thinking about the necessary bureaucratic shenanigans and adaptations of traditions to those established faiths in space-set scifi

I think the Apollo missions launching from Orlando means that Florida has jurisdiction over the moon as far as the catholic church goes, would could be really funny if they refused to change it even after moon colonies are a thing

if we follow the logic of C. S. Lewis's first two "Space Trilogy" books, other worlds' civilizations need not have experienced "the Fall" (in the Christian notion) and therefore wouldn't necessarily require salvation.

Fun fact: this is actually a solved problem. Not the Saturn part specifically, but the more general problem of Muslim prayer in space has come up often enough (read: there have been enough Muslim astronauts) that religious scholars had to research and develop a new rule for this scenario. The answer? Pray toward the Kaabah if possible, and at times that would line up with your point of departure:

On a related note, Muslims in the far north realized they'd have severe difficulty following any rule based on the rising and setting of the sun - in particular, fasting during Ramadan - when the sun doesn't rise or set when you're that far north. The answer in this situation?

Muslims in the arctic are generally advised by religious authorities to adopt one of three solutions. Firstly, if there are major practical or health obstacles to their fasting during the prescribed month, they may replace the fasting days of Ramadan with substitute days at another time of the year.
