honestly the main appeal to having my own discord server is that people will actually use it and I can ban/mute/time out them and post on there if I need a break from some someone/thing

most social media only lets you block people from seeing you or giving you notifs but they're still there on the site, being able to entirely eject someone from a private space is just way more private feeling

also the power to go "Stop posting about X in here I don't want to see it" and people will usually go somewhere else with it. and if not, usually only need to kick one person before other people decide that's not worth it

A helpful metaphor I've found when having your own discord server is that you're "having guests over in your house", you aren't trying to form a community or something, and if someone is bothering you, you can kick them out.
