Yeah, bard as a comedian/comic relief is done to absolute death and rarely has anything interesting going for it, to the point where anything that does a twist on a bard usually calls it something else to get some distance from the wacky rogue with a lute image.

I had much the same thought! It definitely has some interesting thoughts in its design, but it's ultimately not For Me™️.

Using common items to measure combat distance so they can have their theatre-of-the-mind combat cake and eat it too I found to be delightfully clever.

This has me in my nostalgia and wanting to dig-up the bard build I made for Pathfinder 1e that used music to create terror in all who heard them sing. Just peak PF1e - finding an underutilized mechanic and going all-in on it.

there's a lot of influences taken from the other mediums with RPGs to be fair, a lot of videogames do the two dimensional ruffian doing stand up approach to bards as well. (never played FF10 though)
