A really funny (read: sometimes awful but potentially very funny) social dynamic Mastodon accidentally (?) has is how you can reply to someone's post without @'ing them (?) by hitting the reply button and then deleting their handle from the reply which I THINK still just adds your post to the thread for everyone but doesn't notify OP. Soft reply. It's like a weirder more passive quote retweet
