as could a variety of other astronomical events. the one we'd likely have the least warning of is a nearby supernova.
this is one of those intro astronomy topics which, like... to their credit, astronomers aren't trying to scare people with it. if anything they're calm about it to a degree that many people find off-putting
this has always been true. what's recent in history is that humanity understands enough about the stuff in the sky now to know that our civilization is not at a stage where most of these threats can be mitigated

this is the point at which we advise falling back on a spiritual belief system, if you have one :D personally, ours tells us that death is inevitable and need not be viewed as an enemy, but that life is still precious for however long it lasts, that impermanence is beautiful. that's handy here because it's not in conflict with our scientific understanding of the situation, which also tells us that death is inevitable :D :D :D :D
