hey so... like....... if you're not really "i am a dog" but like... "i would absolutely become a dog without even a second thought given the opportunity", are you already a therian? or is that too general? asking for a friend

I guess for more discussion/clairity/perspective, if someone were to ask me if Im a human Id say yes, but also if someone asked me if I were a bat (or other sona species) Id say yes, and also my self-perception has been one of my sonas (different ones at different times) like 95% of the time recently.
yeah that is exactly how it feels to me
i'm interested in it but i'd be hesitant to call myself one if it's not really the right word for it... i don't want to be part in muddying what it means to be a therian
i'm having a hard time writing a satisfying answer to this, because ultimately it's up to "your friend," as identity labels tend to be. there's not a unified therian experience.
speaking personally, however, noticing thoughts like that was probably the largest step on my path towards calling myself therian/otherkin. i do not believe in any spiritual way that i am a dragon, but i really would prefer if i were, and when given the opportunity (read: online) i present myself as such and enjoy when i receive affirmations of it. and that satisfaction when imagining myself inhabiting a different body is enough for me to feel comfortable labeling myself as such.
basically: if some hypothetical person feels like this and also wants to call themself a therian, they're a therian.
yeah... in the end its a personal thing...
this is giving me a lot of power though, it's good to hear others' experiences!
if your friend was asking about gender, you'd know how to answer
your friend's bio states that they are a dog irl
i feel like you know the answer to this question already
there's no more "right" or "wrong" way to be therian/kin than there is to be trans, etc. it's ultimately an identity label that you can choose whether or not to apply to yourself if it feels right for you
well the difficulty is that i have a whole bunch of identity labels ("furry", "fursuiter" (in the sense of "i turn myself into something else by wearing a suit and immersing myself"), "tf fan", etc) and the overlap of all of these feels suspiciously close to the therian experience, but the overlap doesn't necessarily mean its the same thing, i think.... its good to hear how others think about it!
