This game's actually really enjoyable, definitely the most mechanically deep entry in the 99 series so far I think which makes it feel much more tense. A game like Tetris 99 can be tense too for sure but there's also the kind of human RNG element there that you might get attacked out of nowhere and not be able to feasibly do anything about until in F-Zero where you're in control of much more of the action. If I'm getting put in a precarious situation during a race it's more likely to be the fault of my own actions with taking a risk in using a boost or not being familiar enough with the track.
All in all I'm pleasantly surprised with it!
