If you're from, like, literally any country other than the US where English is an official language, please verify whether any claims you see randos making about "the" law online apply to you.
Something that's Not Clearly Illegal in 43 out of 50 states might get you 10 years wherever you live. Something that one could sue others into oblivion over in the US might not even be an actionable tort where you are. Be careful.

Across common law jurisdictions, a lot of the framework is the same, but that starts to get shaky with basically any area of law that's newer than about the late 19th century, and you can basically just assume that the parameters being put in each "slot" in that framework are different enough that you need to research the situation in your jurisdiction.
Even in the US I run into people hearing about something happening in another state and thinking it applies nationwide.

Yeah, and that's even more likely to be disastrous down there as compared to countries with more centralised approaches to federalism, honestly. Yikes.
I wonder how many Filipinos think citizen juries or law being determined primarily by legal precedent are a thing here thanks to American media and the common assumption that the entirely of our legal and government systems are copypasted from the US (it isn't we're actually a civil law country with a legal system that's more a US-influenced descendant of the Spanish one)
Probably a ton. :x Looking at how many people justβ¦ β¦kinda apply US-specific legal and governance concepts to Canada, a country which in part defines itself based on Not Being The US, I get the impression that the combination of US cultural hegemony and most people not being all that interested in the law, so on, leads to many people just basically thinking that US media β How Law Works Generally.
Yeah I've heard about people in Germany thinking courts work the same way as in the US, addressing the judge as your honor, etc
