I like to imagine the first belly digests some of the way and the second belly digests the rest at a much lower and slower rate (like a baseline power station). You can intake the same amount of food as an anthro (normally) but once it moves on to the lower belly you’re hungry again, though perhaps not overly so if both are lacking food. So overall you’re eating more food than an anthro to sustain yourself but your upper belly regulates how much and how often you eat.

This becomes especially true among taur athletes, who need even more calories. Fuelling both bellies sufficiently would be harder to do, but entirely possible.
