hey what i am seeing posts on my TL where they have an 18+ content warning post as a share reply to a non content warning'd post... HOW YOU DO THAT? I can't do that!! the mouse cursor turns into a red 🚫 when hovering over the 18+ and CW buttons

hi folks! jae here. welcome to the first financial update of 2023! this is a long one with a lot to discuss so strap in. as always, I recommend taking a look at past financial updates for context on terminology and concepts.

first off: where have we been? why has this financial update taken so long to come out?

2023 has been kind of a mess for us thus far. I was unfortunately kind of a non-entity due to health issues (complications from long covid) during the entirety of Q1, meaning that all work I had planned (including revenue-generating work) was automatically delayed. I’m currently the only one who writes these, which means that if I forget or am unable, it doesn’t happen. (we’re working on fixing this part.) I realize this is kind of a non-answer but it’s the truth. I have a bad working memory so sometimes I forget things, like that I need to write the financial update. fellow ADHD-havers will probably understand.

on to the meat!

i always wonder if the furry banner ads on furaffinity¹ are worth it. like, as a furry artist do you get a meaningful amount of clicks through there, and as furaffinity does it give a meaningful amount of ad income to support the site?

i feel like its relevant here because the thing about ads is they're at their most annoying when its the website equivalent of spam mail.

but when its ads by your peers, content you might've otherwise come across in another way or something that you might've gotten suggested by one of your friends, then it becomes something actually worthwile

also on promoted tweets

i'm also just thinking about how yesterday is the first time after many years on twitter that a promoted tweet has been relevant to my interests and something i haven't seen before. something that actually informed me that something now exists that i might be interested in. crazy world we live in.

tl;dr: i wouldn't mind ads from fellow cohosters

1. which are (annoyingly blinking but otherwise fine) GIF banner ads for furries, by furries. they're ads from fursuit makers, artists, furry webcomics, etc

wish there was a doesthedogdie.com for metroidvanias that lists whether the game has permanently missable upgrades or completion items
