I work in a small public library that's undergoing renovation and will require a massive deaccessioning of books. Rather than, say, estimate what that loss would be and give the reference librarian (also head of adult collections) time to consider what needs to go (the renovation has been planned for more than a year), we got the news that we have to delete 400 shelves work of books from the collections a week before we reopen. The current policy is all-hands-on-deck weeding of basically everything that hasn't gone out in a year from people with varying levels of experience (including myself, who has none!!!!).

Said reference librarian pulled me aside today to say, basically, this is not how a library should be run, and I agree with her but I also have no room to voice any concerns since my boss who made this decision is helping to pay for my library school.
