With INDIE INTERVIEWS, I talk to the game developers hanging here on Cohost to learn more about new games you might love.

The other day, I was looking through the game tags here on Cohost and this game immediately jumped out at me. It was Tower of Spirit: a rogue-like RPG with a great hand-drawn look and original creature designs. And it's all made by a single dev? I reached out to @Paci to learn more about it.

Tower of Spirit is out now on Steam Early Access!

Introduce yourself for everyone here on Cohost! Who are you?

Paci: I'm Morgan (Paci), I changed life and decided to become an indie developer 2 years ago! I knew nothing about coding or drawing before this big leap of faith but hey, that's an adventure!

Is there a project you're working on currently? Tell us about it!

Paci: I'm still working on my first commercial game Tower of Spirit, which is available on Early Access on Steam. It's a rogue-like / turn-based RPG with a unique art style!

How did you find yourself first getting into game development?

Paci: After the first year of covid, I decided it was time to make some deep change in my life. I quit my job and start learning everything from scratch. I never regret this choice and really enjoy working in video game as an indie!

Any advice for aspiring indie devs out there?

Paci: Making a game is really hard, so you better be prepared! It takes time, a lot of creativity and hard work. Organization and perseverance are keys.

Tower of Spirit has this really great hand-drawn art direction that brings it to life. What are the benefits and drawbacks of working in that style?

Paci: Everything in Tower of Spirit is hand-drawn and animated frame-by-frame. The main benefit for that is that the game has unique visuals. This is a big thing to stand out. There is however a big drawback for that and it's time. Adding a character and drawing 25 to 50 frames for him is really hard and time-consuming. That's why so many people abandoned the old school frame-by-frame animation.

Lastly, are there any indie games out there you've been playing recently? Any favorites to shout-out?

Paci: I recently discovered "Goodbye World" from YO FUJI. It's a narrative game with amazing pixel art and a really deep, touching story. I love it!

Thank you so much to @Paci for having a chat with me! You can find Tower of Spirit out now on Steam Early Access. I've got my work cut out for me sorting through all the cool devs here on Cohost, but if you wanna introduce yourself, you should leave a comment over on the IGoC Introductions post. Until next time!
