So, to give a little more insight into what I like, I'll outline some of my favorite things and why they're my favorites.
Video Games
Link's Awakening: My favorite Zelda game and holds a special place in my heart for a lot of reasons.
Garry's Mod: I unironically think Garry's Mod is possibly one of the funniest games available, if you know how to make it be. While Half-Life 2 will always be the first love of mine for PC Gaming, Garry's Mod is what dropped my anchor here forever.
Dark Souls: Specifically, the first one in the series as it's what inspired my love of deadly exploration and dark fantasy combined. I'm one of those fans who really enjoyed where Dark Souls 2 was headed, as well, because it was just so weird at times.
Titanfall 2: If multiplayer competitive shooters had a peak, this was it. In addition to having one of the best FPS campaigns in a great long while, I still pop into Northstar for some multiplayer matches time and time again for this. Something about perfectly merging two completely different subgenres of FPS keeps me coming back again.
Wonderful 101: I'm a big fan of Platinum Games, but I think Wonderful 101 takes the cake for ridiculous action. Something about starting out so small and ending so big is wonderfully satisfying.
Books
Discworld: God I love Discworld. I love how wacky, and fun, and emotional it gets. It's definitely a setting you should pick up a later book of, though, for sure. Pratchett is a wonderful writer, and definitely punches up with most of his writing, but he still had a bit to learn at the start! But this series is beloved for a reason, and there's something for everyone there.
The Locked Tomb: Okay, this is still ongoing, and while I was certain it was going to end a trilogy, it seems like we're getting a quadrilogy instead. A lot of Locked Tomb's humor definitely relies on you having hung out in certain places on the internet circa 2013-2017, but also after a brief start-up period, it comes into its own as extremely interesting Sci-Fi. The first book may start out with a bit too many characters but the second book is an explosion of great universe-building.
While there's more books I really love, I also harbor a love of short-form horror (especially cosmic!), and just short stuff in general.
TV
Here's where it gets a bit trickier for me.
Over the Garden Wall: Straight up 2 hours of the finest animated TV you'll ever watch. It's forever on my fall watchlist every time the leaves turn orange. Perfect for a halloween movie night, as well.
Gurren Lagann: This is the anime that cemented my love of ridiculous action shows. While I love later stuff by a lot of those people (Kill La Kill, in particular, gets really good if you ignore...half of it...), I think Gurren Lagann has a perfect trajectory of hype intensity if you suspend your disbelief hard enough.
Columbo: I admit, I got caught up in the internet's Columbo revival a few years back after just never watching the show at all. I checked it out to satisfy my curiosity and discovered a perfectly fun and intelligence show whose quality bounces all over the decade, with an absolutely charming character at the helm.
Movies
Kiki's Delivery Service: All time favorite animated movie, full stop. It's a perfect emotional reset for me.
Six-String Samurai: I cannot live without some goddamn cheese. I don't know what it is about this movie in particular that lives with me forever, but it's just so earnest in what it's aping that I cannot help but love it.
The Color Out of Space: Specifically the 2020 version with Nicholas Cage. It absolutely gets to live as my favorite horror movie of the last decade, easily. Wonderful tension, horrifying special effects, and a healthy dose of existential uncertainty at the end.
Tabletop Games
D&D 5e I learned tabletop RPGs back in 2010ish on 3.5, but my friend circle hopped onto 5e shortly after its launch and it's now our primary system. I love it dearly, and almost always have a campaign going on. I play in two or three games weekly, and run an additional one. I adore creating homebrew for 5e, even running my game out of a homebrew setting of mine called Gildrune. Ask me about it sometime! I'll explain why there's never more than 33 dragons in existence.
Call of Cthulhu: Specifically, I play 7th edition by Chaosium. I get to run one of these games almost once a year and I enjoy scaring the pants off my players when I do. Almost always there's some hilarious stories that come up from these.
Other Hobbies
3D Printing: I picked up a budget 3D printer a few years ago and learned the ropes on it. Now I run a modified Creality Ender 3, even going so far as to occasionally design my own prints.
Videogame Emulation & Hardware: I adore emulating old games, and have much to say about the many ways one can do so. I love to talk about, test, and review hardware for playing games, too. I'll happily chat about pretty much anything video games!
Writing: While most of my spilt ink goes towards my tabletop campaigns, I do like to occasionally write stories, reviews, and scripts for videos. I'm sure I'll share a few excerpts of my writings, though I'm not nearly as prolific as I'd like to be, I'm always thinking up something.
Gaming History: I'm no historian, but I do love to consume historical stories about game development and culture. I eat up tales about ancient MUDs and obscure programming glitches.
That's all the major stuff I can think of for now, so I'll leave this post before it gets too long.
