Tbh I think Tom Paris might be the worst character in voyager, even including the reformed Barclay that is still very obsessed with Troi

That's the worst part! I love him being a neurotic mess but they keep making him worse and worse and Deanna puts up with it! In a just world he and Geordi would have their holodeck privileges revoked but...it was the 90s
I meant Tom Paris, although I'm not fond of Barclay either! At least sometimes we see that other characters don't like it when Barclay does creepy stuff, and if it wasn't ruined by his creepy actions towards Troi, Barclay would be a fun character, but Tom Paris is consistently treated like hot shit by everyone around him even though he sucks so bad and isn't particularly interesting... ENOUGH!!!! I haven't finished watching Voyager so maybe he gets better but so far he has been a total dick to everyone around him with 0 consequences and has had maybe 1 mildly interesting character moment.
S7 B'elanna apologizes for getting in between him and his race he signed up for despite knowing they have plans so no, he does not get better.
God... don't they end up getting married or something, too? Absolutely terrible. He does worse things (like his behavior towards every woman, or the racist remarks he makes towards Chakotay in THE FIRST EPISODE) but one of my particular pet peeves with him is how he treats Harry, because they're supposed to be best friends. That's your best friend and you're interrupting him and telling him his music is shit and he always has to clean up after you and you never do anything to earn his friendship even though he clearly cares about you so much and thinks you hung the moon and stars? Fuck you man. I don't ship Harry and B'Elanna romantically but they should have ditched Tom to hang out as best friends without him
They should've left Tom Paris on the Threshold planet with the lizard babies and only rescued Janeway
I know they get married in one episode that ends up being a huge fakeout, but EVERYBODY slights her for being part Klingon, especially Tuvok which is disappointing. Harry though....everyone treats Harry like shit and it's been so disappointing watching him bust his ass and have him watch Tom make LT (for the second time! He got busted down to ensign and still made it back up before Harry!)
I'm so disappointed to hear that even Tuvok gives B'Elanna shit... I haven't gotten to that yet but it sucks so bad 😭 the writing around her being half Klingon is often really bad too even when the other characters aren't explicitly dicks to her about it. The Klingons have a different culture but they're still PEOPLE, and the writers sometimes act like B'Elanna being half Klingon means she's like a werewolf or something which is infuriating because those are just people!!! She's literally just mixed race that's it!!!
And the way Harry is treated especially sucks because he's like the most dedicated and kind and hardworking person on that whole ship. He hasn't done anything to deserve how dismissively and badly he's treated. He makes these noble sacrifices all the time like how he gives up his perfect life on Earth to go back to Voyager so that his old academy friend and Tom will be better off, or how he cares for Tom in the episode where Tom literally tries to kill him and nobody gives a shit about it!! Like it's just expected of him and goes totally unrewarded. Justice for Harry Kim!!!
