how do i reconcile 1. all the good things i keep hearing about otherside picnic from friends whose tastes i trust, with 2. that absolutely rancid interview the author did that people nevertheless seem to think is genius for reasons beyond my understanding

I liked that interview but I think the guy was misreading his own examples badly by thinking of them in terms of absence (but I was already thinking about the erotics of environments by the time I read it). I think he latched on instinctively to something about how some real erotic dynamics worked but then chose really bad jargon to characterise it with.

I understand why it pissed some folks off, very 'a dude tries to explain women to women' in some ways, I think it just hit me right at the right time in my trajectory as a writer, it was around then I wrote the cityfucking evangelion fic
