Thought - rogue was developed during a time when arcades were still going strong. Perhaps rogue was a dungeon crawler with arcade sensibilities all along, which is why roguelikes are basically arcade games if the thing they take from rogue is the part where it’s like an arcade game.
Like we had RPGs and text adventures that were absolutely not arcadey in the slightest! Rogue made an intentional choice to be like an arcade game. Maybe that’s just been there the whole time, and people have been to some degree mis-crediting rogue for their arcade elements all along
That's kinda what my thought was before I made the post, I just made it slightly silly instead of serious. But yes, I think that's probably, at least, slightly accurate
