what is the best static site generators for me to use as a beginner? i've been thinking about changing my layout a little bit to make it a bit more consistent for each different page.

How beginner... Can you do basic terminal commands? Hugo is nice if you can, doesn't use any react/framework stuff and has documentation and stuff but I've generally used a premade theme so I don't know how hard it is to make a custom one.

no, i don't really know much about basic terminal commands, i'm sorry to say.
Basically every site generator requires you to be able to at least navigate a file system through a command prompt and to copy paste any other commands they provide you. It isn't hard, there's like 2 commands you really need to know
11ty (Eleventy). www.11ty.dev It's what I use (and honestly I've only used this one) but it supports many template languages, is simple, and for me at least I figured it out pretty quickly.
