professional crafter of artisanal queer tatterpigs | I'm the monster wreathed in smoke and orange blossoms

Didn't do the full study group tonight, on account of me having fallen ill with something1. Fortunately, this portion is actually one we've read part of before- it opens with G-d visiting Abraham and informing him of the oncoming destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, him pleading with G-d to withhold judgement if there were certain numbers of righteous people there, G-d's agents then travelling there and warning Lot, and the destruction of the five cities of the plain for their crimes and injustices2. After that all, Lot's daughters think the world has ended and conspire to fuck their dad; Sarah gives birth to Issac and possibly breastfeeds a whole room of babies; and we return again to the binding of Issac.

No clips from the commentators today since I'm afflicted with Agonies and mostly read through the portion while skimming them, and since we didn't do the group study we didn't have as much time to just dwell on things and pick them apart.

  1. first test indicates it's not covid, and tomorrow i'll take a second test, but atm it appears i have one of the other, less in vogue afflictions

  2. sodom and gomorrah are often used as these bogeymen against homosexuality and while sex crimes do come up in the text, the sages appear to generally agree that they were guilty of every sort of iniquity, but the thing above all else that brought down g-d's punishment was their disregard for the poor and least among them. several comparisons also get made to when g-d destroyed humanity during the flood
