professional crafter of artisanal queer tatterpigs | I'm the monster wreathed in smoke and orange blossoms

[liza, put-upon] man, everyone I know makes doing murders look SO EASY.

  • Cora wakes up and as her dream from last night slips away, she realizes she's not alone in the room, her curse having allowed her to remember setting up the bed for a guest but not the guest. The Architect manages to resolve this without getting hit with a baseball bat, and takes her leave while reminding Cora of what they'd discussed concerning her other self1.
  • Liza and Pitohui/Klyatva plan to kill the Architect, eventually deciding to lure her out of the labyrinth using Cora as bait while Liza cuts away her immortality, and the two of them murder her. We learn that Liza isn't entirely comfortable with getting into the proverbial bed with Pitohui but that she also finds her kinda sad in a pathetic way, and that Klyatva's mind is being suppressed compared to Pitohui due to their use of Opal's honey, though that state of affairs could well change. Pitohui indicates how he seems unconcerned with what ultimately becomes of Klyatva, and Liza grabs them by the collar and asks them what would happen if she killed the Architect and bound them. Pitohui grabs her back and asks why she hasn't bound it already, and speculates as to why. Nobody really comes out on top, and Liza misses a great chance to make out with it.
  • A shadow passes over the Grotto, and Ovida is joined on her moon by He, Death. They talk, and she proceeds to reveal Cora's plan, causing him some surprise and amusement. Ovida asks whether he actually enjoys the job, and he asks her if she's ever had a job before2, because even the good ones are a mix of good and bad things. He wonders why she'd want his job and whether she really understands what it entails, and we review the possible people who'd want his job, including: the faculty, his daughter, his other daughter, or the Principal of school if they snapped. Ovida seizes on the opportunity to discuss his daughter, Jasper, and learns that He, Death would still love to see her but is certain she wouldn't want to see him. Ovida smells an opportunity. They depart, and Ovida gifts him one of her white lunar roses.
  • Cora looks up Jasper Irinka in the phone book and calls her, arranging to meet her to talk. Cora discusses her plans as Jasper questions her on them and why she'd even want the job. She talks a bit about her own thoughts on the Academy and destroying it or replacing her dad, and speculates how much she could really change it if she just replaced him. Jasper gives Cora some advice on how to fight him, recommending amongst other things to not give him a chance to talk, but the two of them are interrupted by Ovida appearing and freaking out Cora who, as you may recall, does not remember her or her proclivity for jumping out of people's eyes. Ovida proceeds to make things really weird for everyone as she advocates for Jasper to reconnect with her dad and/or kill him? She's not very committal on which she should do save she's pretty sure they'd both rather not kill him/be dead. This upsets Jasper, while Cora is bewildered that apparently she was friend enough to be caught in her curse, and sympathizes with Jasper. As this goes on, the rest of the cafe gets really awkward about avoiding or eavesdropping on this scene. Eventually, Ovida makes her exit, and Cora immediately forgets about her again, much to her own chagrin as she realizes this. She asks Jasper if she can receive any sort of help from her, and Jasper kisses her on the forehead and leaves as she tells her she's already given it3.
  • Liza sets loose her snakes to break into Cora's house

  1. she wants to kill her

  2. no

  3. this is a fairly classical Jasper, aside from being like 31, and so she also has Primordial bindings and the associated powers available to her to help or otherwise know things about Cora and her hopes.
