this rules. as a musical theatre gay at the tender age of 12 who had never heard the term "concept album" before i was utterly obsessed with American Idiot. i was shipping Jesus of Suburbia and St Jimmy before i knew what shipping was. i grew up in a very liberal household in a liberal but still soul-sucking suburbia. i didn't need the album the way it sounds like you did, but it was such a source of joy and rebellion for me. thanks for writing this!
