i really wanna change my name but nothing feels right. everything i think of is either too boring, i know of someone with the same name and it feels like i'm stealing it or it's too cool and i don't want my name to be writing coolness checks that the rest of me can't cash, ya know? I have a pile of character names, plus a few pen names i may use if i ever publish anything (big if) but like nothing i'd want to be called everyday

Names are hard!

It was hard enough to find a decent and apt furry name, and that's not going anywhere near a legal form. XD

Finding a new name you'll use everywhere is a whole thing, take your time about it!

I don't have that many friends i'm out to, mostly just my partners and a few internet friends but I'm definitely gonna try some out with them once I can settle on something in my head. I'm getting closer, I can feel it. Thank you for the kind words.

" Some names don't have staying power. Never pick yourself a name you can't scrub a floor in." -- sage advice from Granny Weatherwax.

Like others, I just tried a bunch of names, and Kylie is the one I just kept coming back to. And to be honest, I'm still not 100% sure about it, even after using it for a couple years now.

https://www.behindthename.com/ is a pretty decent source for checking out name meanings and variants.

Take your time and remember: it's only when you fill out the paperwork that you should be Pretty Certain That's The One. Updating legal documents is a pain. And costs money.

Good advice. There's a reason PTerry's my favorite author, he was just so insightful, wise, and funny as hell. Can't say I recall that quote in any of his books I've read, but I like it. Which (witch, heh) one is it from? And for what it's worth, I think Kylie is a lovely name.

i went by my initials for a long while as a placeholder name. then someone in my intro chem class made a joke about calling me the element that has my initials as its atomic symbol so that's gonna be my legal name when i change it. i've also known people who spelled out their initials (so like if their previous name was Sam, then they went by Ess since it sounds like the letter S)
