a big part of what makes columbo so endearing is that he never uses a gun and rarely even carries one. he'll bumble his way into something and find himself at gunpoint but he just... talks them out of it. most cop shows will have characters busting down doors, guns drawn. (even the x-files does the gun + flashlight combo which i will admit looks very cool) but not our boy. not columbo.
cops today could learn so much on deescalation from Lieutenant "Lieutenant" Columbo
